According to Rightmove, they experienced a 195 per cent increase in their web traffic over the Christmas period last year*. To support these findings, we also saw a 117 per cent Humberts.com enquiry surge at the end of 2015 when compared with the previous quarter.

Ian Westerling, Managing Director, commented “Christmas is a time for relaxing and getting together as a family – conversations about moving home or plans for the year ahead are often sparked over the festive period hence why we have such a surge of enquiries. Although December isn’t a traditional time to market a home we urge our potential vendors to consider it as an option if they’re looking for a speedy, successful sale.

Here are our top tips for marketing a home over the Christmas period:

 - Make sure your professional photographs are taken before your Christmas decorations go up and bear in mind that less is more when it comes to adorning your home

- If your home is on the market over the Christmas period make sure you’re open to viewings and have the time to present your home beautifully

- Light a fire and create a festive atmosphere for your potential purchasers – remember that they will be picturing future Christmas’s in your home

- Although your garden might not be looking at its most colourful best, make sure that the lawns and borders are presented tidily
