The Old School is an attractive detached former school. It was built in 1855 for Long Bredy and Kingston Russell and closed in 1975. It was subsequently converted into a spacious and characterful home with flexible accommodation. The property is built of stone under a clay tiled roof and its features, typical of its school heritage, include large windows, arched doors and exposed roof beams.
Under the current ownership since 2009 a considerable amount of money has been spent on refurbishment and upgrading including fitting a new kitchen with NEFF electric oven, electric halogen ceramic hob and integrated dishwasher, a new downstairs shower/laundry room, additional wood grain style UPVC sealed unit windows and an additional velux window to the first floor, a large bespoke upstairs storage cupboard with mezzanine above, oak flooring in kitchen, partial re-roofing, part new ceilings and a bespoke insulated double faced oak front door. Landscaping improvements have also been undertaken.
The property is very well appointed and a particular feature is the very large 'L' shaped sitting room with a multi fuel wood burning stove.
Driveway/Parking for Several Cars, Garage/Workshop with Belfast Sink, Water Supply, Power and Light.
The partially walled garden enjoys excellent privacy and is south facing. There is an area of lawn with feature box hedges and bordered by well stocked shrub and flower borders. Adjoining The Old School is a large paved terrace with stone retaining walls. Covered log store, outside water taps.
The Old School occupies a picturesque, peaceful and secluded setting off a small country lane leading to the church of Long Bredy village. With many local walking routes and enjoying unpolluted night skies, it overlooks rolling chalk downland. Long Bredy is a conservation area and is situated within the beautiful Bride Valley, an area designated as one of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Apart from the church there is a village hall. The stunning World Heritage coastline is about 5 miles away with access to the south-west coastal path.
The village of Litton Cheney is 1 mile away and has a public house, a newly built village hall and a primary school. Slightly further afield are the villages of Abbotsbury and Burton Bradstock, both with good local amenities. Long Bredy is very conveniently situated midway between the market towns of Bridport and Dorchester, approximately 8 miles away. There are main line rail services to London from Dorchester and Weymouth.
From Bridport, proceed east along the A35 towards Dorchester and at the end of the dual carriageway, after about 7 miles, turn right signed Long Bredy. At the 'T' junction at the bottom on the hill turn left and then turn left at the small triangle, signed to the 'church only'. The Old School is the first property on the left.
