A secluded and large modern house ideal for family life, together with peaceful and secluded garden, field and stables, about 3 acres in all.
Rivendell was built in the mid 1990's and extended in 2000. It is a large family house, well appointed and equipped throughout. The entrance hall has a handsome turned staircase leading up to a galleried landing. Double doors from the hall open into a large well-proportioned sitting room with stone fireplace and woodburning stove as well as a bay window. On the other side of the hall is a dining room, whilst at the back of the house overlooking the lovely garden, is a spacious kitchen/breakfast room with double doors opening out into a conservatory which can also be accessed from the sitting room. The practical parts of the house are supported by a cloakroom and a utility room with adjacent boot room of generous proportions, ideal for dogs and outdoor paraphernalia. The utility room connects through to the integral garage. On the first floor is a large principal bedroom with French casements opening out onto an elevated sun terrace from which there are lovely views over the garden to wooded farmland beyond. The principal bedroom has an ensuite dressing room with a range of wardrobes and a bathroom which includes a spa bath and bidet. Bedroom 2 was the original master bedroom and still has an ensuite bathroom. Three further bedrooms are served by a separate shower room with bedroom 5 currently being used as a study. The house has oil fired central heating and sealed unit double glazing.
At the front of the house there is a gravelled parking and turning area which gives access directly to the double garage. From the parking area, a five bar gate opens to the side garden which in turn enables access through to the paddock. The garden lies principally to the rear of the house and is a real joy. It's mature and offers an oasis of peace and seclusion. Adjoining the conservatory is a slightly elevated paved terrace and entertaining area. This overlooks two areas of lawn bisected by a feature bridge flanked by lilly ponds. The garden takes the form of separate rooms or spaces, and contains a variety of specimen trees and shrubs as well as wide and colourful borders. Towards the bottom of the garden is an orchard and screened vegetable garden supported by a green house. Adjacent to this is an excellent range of stables comprising hay store, three loose boxes, tack and feed room. Light and power are connected and the yard is floodlit. From the stable yard there is access out to the field which is level and on one boundary enclosed by a stream, the banks of which are stepped with a number of mature trees. In all the property extends to about approximately 3 acres.
Rivendell occupies a peaceful corner plot off a small and select close development. Stourton Caundle is widely regarded as one of the best villages in the locality. It's set to the north western side of the Blackmore Vale with some excellent walking and riding in the immediate vicinity. It has a pub and church, both of which lie within walking distance of the house. The abbey town of Sherborne, the market town of Sturminster Newton and the large village of Stallbridge are all within a few minutes drive and contain a good range of everyday facilities. Sherborne has a main line railway station connecting with London Waterloo. The larger centres of Blandford, Shaftesbury, Dorchester and Yeovil are all within commuting distance. Much of the area to the south is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty, and the Dorset coast is within easy driving distance. The A303 can be accessed to the north at Wincanton, giving a good route back to London and the Home Counties via the M3 and M25.
