Spotlight on - Fairford
This small town sits on a lovely stretch of the River Coln and developed as a result of being an important coaching town on the London to Gloucester route.
Fairford is a town full of character and community. The parish church of St Marys is famous for its 28 ornate stain glass windows telling the story of the Bible. The world famous Royal International Air Tattoo is held at nearby RAF Fairford every year over three days in July. It is the largest military show in the world with thousands flocking to the area to watch the show whatever the weather.
Keeping with tradition the Fairford Town Crier steps into the market square on the first Wednesday of every month to ‘cry’ into the town. Many lakes are situated in this area which provide walking routes filled with scenic views and paths to explore. Within Fairford there are rows of shops and small cafes as well as the large park and playing fields.
At the beginning of June, the annual Fairford Festival is held, which is filled with fun activities for all ages. The town is served by Fairford Church of England Primary School and Farmor’s School at secondary level.
