With the 2019/2020 football season upon us already, Humberts Long Melford is delighted to be continuing its support of walking football by sponsoring Cornard United Dynamos Walking Football Club.
Established in July 2018, Cornard United Dynamos came third in this year’s Suffolk FA Walking Football Cup and in July 2019 went on to win the inaugural Suffolk Wall Coating Company Trophy. At the time of writing Cornard United Dynamos are top of the Essex FA Walking Football League (Over 50’s Division North) and are closing in on a first league title. Quite an impressive first twelve months!
Mark Wilkins, Associate Director at Humberts in Long Melford, has been training with the squad since its formation last year, “I’ve been really impressed with the friendly and competitive spirit at the club and surprised by the physical demands of walking football, which is by no means a walk in the park! We’ve got really strong ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams at Cornard and there are also decent numbers competing for places, but we’re always looking for more to join us at the Monday evening training sessions, which run all year round. Come down and give it a try – it’s great fun, fabulous exercise and you might even go home with the coveted ‘Still got it trophy’, which is awarded each week.”
Walking football offers a multitude of health benefits such as reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke while improving blood pressure. Positive changes in postural balance, blood pressure and resting heart rate, lowered cholesterol, improved blood sugar levels, bone density and improving reactions, whilst slashing the odds of suffering from type 2 diabetes.
There are also many psychological and mental health advantages to playing walking football – namely high levels of personal reward and satisfaction with reduced levels of stress.
