Spotlight on - The Quantock Hills
Standing majestically to the north of the Vale of Taunton are the Quantock Hills which were the very first area to be awarded an area of outstanding natural beauty by the National Trust in the UK and for very good reason.
A network of footpaths and bridleways enjoy some of the most breath taking scenery in the west of England. A mecca for people looking to enjoy the great outdoors whilst at the same time being a playground for mountain bikers, cycling and horse riding. The hills hold an interesting history dating back to the Bronze age.
Of particular note is the drover’s path that leads from the north to the south being the main connection link for traders of the past between Bridgwater and Watchet. Here the dramatic views stretching from the Bristol channel extend across to the Welsh borders, while the soft rolling countryside shows off the Brendon Hills, Blackdown and Exmoor National Park to the south west.
