THE AGENT SAYS...
The Old School is a fantastic property with superb large and airy rooms that have plenty of beautiful features. The windows of the property are particularly stunning, with elegant arches, leaded inserts, and french doors to the walled rear garden with its church views.
The property is in good condition with some lovely fully
decorated rooms and is ready to move into. However, some are unfinished, notably the stunning central drawing room, and others are in need of cosmetic renovation, but
this house is brimming with potential for the right buyer. Joa Studholme, Farrow and Ball’s Colour Curator, has
created an amazing home in her similar school house.
THE PROPERTY
GROUND FLOOR
The porch is currently not used and the main entrance is via the hall at the other end of the property. Adjoining the hall is a walk-through workshop, leading to the back garden, that could be a great boot room. The garage, and a larger workshop behind, is also accessible from the hall. The drawing room is an unfinished project but is a stunning room with a parquet floor, French doors to the garden and beautiful arched windows, giving the feel of an orangery. This could be the most breathtaking space when complete. A spiral staircase leads to the reception room above.
The kitchen is smartly finished and features a beamed ceiling and strip wood floor. The room is a great size with a built-in pantry, space for range cooker, American style fridge freezer and space/plumbing for a washing machine.
The adjoining dining room has abundant character, with wood panelling, herringbone parquet floor and a fully
beamed ceiling. French doors open to the garden and a
pergola covered patio.
The double-aspect sitting room is wonderfully cosy, with its rich colour palette and large fireplace with woodburning stove. The main staircase rises from here to the first floor.
FIRST FLOOR
Upstairs there are three bedrooms, all of which are a
superb size, with vaulted ceilings increasing the grandeur
and sense of space. The family bathroom is also very
spacious and ideally located between bedrooms 2 and 3.
The principal bedroom at the opposite end of the house has solid oak flooring and benefits from an adjoining shower room and a small study.
Central to the first floor is a huge reception room with solid oak flooring, which is delightful as it is but could alternatively be used as a further bedroom or perhaps partially opened to the room below to create a double height space - there are many possibilities.
GARDENS AND GROUNDS
The front garden is laid to lawn and surrounded by a low wall with planted borders. There is driveway parking in front of the garage.
The walled rear garden is a great size with views of the church next door. The garden is lawned with shrub/flower
beds and some small trees dotted about. There is a pond, central fire pit area, pergola with a patio underneath and paving along the back of the house. The stone and tile workshop adjoining the garage is accessible from the garden.
SURROUNDING AREA
The Old School is situated in this small rural village which
is adjacent to RNAS Yeovilton and two miles from the Roman town of Ilchester. Ilchester has a good range of
amenities and easy access onto the A303 London/Exeter
trunk road. The town of Yeovil is within about five miles, and here there is an excellent range of shops and leisure
amenities, as well as a mainline rail connection (London
Waterloo).
