Windycott is located at the westerly end of Branscombe's long village lane, just over a mile and a half from the World Heritage Jurassic Coastline at Branscombe Mouth and Lyme Bay, and about a mile walk from the beach at Littlecombe Shoot. There are many delightful walks in the immediate vicinity including the South West Peninsular Coastal Path where there are magnificent views over this dramatic stretch of coastline.
Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and with much of the surrounding land owned by the National Trust, this picturesque village has an active community and range of facilities which include a village hall, ancient Parish Church of St Winifred's, two popular public houses (the Fountain Head is a short walk up the lane), an old forge and primary school. and primary school.
The premier coastal resort of Sidmouth is approximately 5 miles along the coastline and has a beautiful Regency front and esplanade and a good range of shopping facilities including an out of town Waitrose. Honiton is approximately 9.5 miles away and has a main line rail link to London (Waterloo).
Windycott is a beautiful detached period cottage with its origins dating back several centuries. A wealth of original features still remain today, these include its heavily beamed ceiling in the large sitting/dining room and large inglenook fireplace with a bread oven. Although the property has a huge amount of period charm it has also been very well maintained and has all the modern conveniences one would expect, such as a beautiful fitted kitchen/breakfast room and an en-suite to the principal bedroom.
The property sits on the village lane, and has a long garden stretching to the north west. This is tiered on a number of levels and there is a covered seating area and terrace which takes advantage of the delightful views. There is a further area of lawn which I believe was once a vegetable garden as well as a garden shed on a lower level. These gardens and grounds have lovely views across the combe to the countryside and woodland in the distance.
Windycott also benefits from a parking area on the opposite side of the lane and this provides room for 2/3 vehicles, a rarity in the village of Branscombe.
