This wonderful period property, which is listed Grade II, has immense character and charm, with a wealth of delightful features such as exposed timbers, leaded light windows, fireplaces and oak doors. It is steeped in history as it dates back to the 16th century and was originally stable buildings for the former Crown Inn and later part was a village shop.
The front door opens into a hall, which has a fireplace with oak mantle housing a wood burner and flanked by a display cabinet. Off this is the drawing room, which is well-proportioned, divided into two sections with a wood burner and an open fire and an original bread oven. There is a door that leads down to another cellar, which houses a pressurised hot water cylinder and boiler. From the reception room glazed doors open into the breakfast room, which is a double height extension with galleried landing and roof lantern above and glazed door onto a courtyard. The breakfast room is open to a large and well-fitted kitchen, which has a wood burning stove, fitted wall and floor units, Corian worktops with countersunk sinks, 4 door Aga, electric oven and 2 ring induction hob. At one end of the kitchen is a door to the garden and at the other end is a door to a paved area leading to the High Street and a hatch to a large cellar. Beyond is the stair hall where there is cloakroom. Off this is a study, an excellent sized dining room with large windows and a sitting room with a fireplace housing a wood burner, a drinks cabinet to the side and a door leading back to the reception hall.
On the first floor is a large landing that wraps around the staircase and has a vaulted ceiling with exposed beams. The principal bedroom is a wonderful size, having originally been 2 rooms, and has a walk-in wardrobe, attractive period fireplace and spacious en suite bathroom with double-ended panelled bath, WC and twin wash hand basins. There are 5 further bedrooms on this floor, one of which has an en suite bathroom that is also accessible from the landing and two of which are interconnecting. The family bathroom has panelled bath with mixer taps and shower attachment, WC and wash hand basin set in vanity unit. There is also a laundry room with a second pressurised hot water cylinder. On the second floor is the 7th bedroom, which is charming and has fitted cupboards and an en suite bathroom.
Attached to the house is a cottage, which is linked to the main house on the first floor, but separate on the ground floor. There is therefore flexibility as to how many bedrooms are allotted to each, but for the purposes of these details we have put 7 bedrooms with the house and 2 with the cottage. The main bedroom in the cottage has an en suite shower room and there is also an attractive first floor sitting room. Downstairs is a hall with coat cupboard, cloakroom with airing and utility cupboards and a well-fitted kitchen breakfast room with granite worktops, integrated dishwasher, fridge freezer, electric cooker with De Dietrich induction hob and French doors to the garden.
A drive leads up to a gated archway, beyond which is a parking and turning area, 2 open-fronted garage bays with large attic room above and a carport.
The garden lies to the rear of the property, within which is a good size outbuilding/workshop, garden store and greenhouse. The stunning gardens are exceptional for a village property, with well stocked herbaceous borders, flowerbeds, shrubs and trees, an expanse of lawn that wraps around a formal rose garden and stone paved terrace. Beyond is an orchard and a large vegetable garden.
