A 4 bedroom Cotswold period cottage
- Private Parking
The cottage was originally two 17th century cottages and later extended with a Georgian addition to create an outstanding home. The property has been sympathetically modernised whilst retaining many of the original features such as exposed beams, Georgian windows with shutters, stone flag floors and exposed stone fire places.
The property is entered through a traditional timber door in to a welcoming hallway with an elegant turned staircase to the first floor. From the hallway a door leads to the inviting and well- proportioned Georgian drawing room which has a beautiful fireplace as the focal point with multi-fuel stove inset. The room benefits from a dual aspect with views to both the front and rear gardens.
Several stone steps lead down from the entrance hall into the impressive kitchen featuring a range of bespoke solid wood painted cabinets and a dresser under a granite counter top with a fabulous island unit taking pride of place in the centre of the room. Within the original inglenook fire place is a three door Aga with companion oven, behind which the wall has been opened to reveal the timber beams, creating a visual flow into the dining room. Integral appliances include a dishwasher, induction hob, double oven, inset Belfast sink. There is also space for an upright fridge/freezer.
From the kitchen an opening leads to the dining room, with an attractive stone fireplace and a stable door leading to the rear garden and its terrace. From the kitchen stone steps lead down to the lower ground floor where the laundry room is situated. The laundry room has a practical tiled floor, a range of wall and base cabinets, inset Belfast sink, a separate storage cupboard, space and plumbing for appliances and plenty of room for an additional fridge/freezer. There is also a cloakroom with WC and wash hand basin.
On the first floor three of the double bedrooms are situated. The impressive master bedroom exhibits the same Georgian features as the drawing room with a dual aspect and includes bespoke fitted wardrobes to either side of the original fireplace. The second bedroom also benefits from a dual aspect and has a bespoke built in wardrobe and dressing table, a feature cast iron fireplace and en suite shower room. The third bedroom enjoys a view to the front garden and has retained the stone surround hearth to a fireplace and fitted the space with book shelves making a lovely feature to the room. A family bathroom with an elegant suite and roll top bath completes the accommodation on this floor.
From the first floor landing a further staircase leads to the attic accommodation. To one side of the landing the fourth bedroom can be found which has two built in wardrobes and the room is given so much character by the outstanding exposed roof trusses. To the other side of the landing is a bathroom with a white suite comprising bath with overhead shower, wash hand basin and WC.
The Grounds and Gardens
The property is approached via a private drive serving The Secret Cottage and one other property. A pair of iron gates mark the entrance which leads to a gravel area for parking and manoeuvring. The front garden is very private, fully enclosed and beautifully landscaped, with stone steps and a flagstone pathway to the front and side. A pedestrian gate leads to the rear west facing garden, which is principally laid to lawn, with mature flower and shrub beds and ornamental pond. Immediately abutting the rear of the cottage, there is a deep paved patio, an ideal place for outside dining and from which a door provides access into the dining room.
To one corner of the garden there is a summer house with a decking area. The summer house has power, a WC and sink unit making it ideal as a home office / workshop or indeed additional accommodation if required.
