Northanger enjoys a delightful situation on the Northern outskirts of Dunster which is regarded as one of the most beautiful villages on Exmoor. It is well known for its wide main street and a number of fine period houses and the famous 17th century Yarn Market. One end of the street is dominated by the tower on Conygar Hill, built in the late 18th century as a landmark for shipping, and Northanger, in fact, nestles beneath this hill. At the other end of the main street stands Dunster Castle and within the village itself is a useful range of facilities including shops, hotel etc.
Northanger is beautifully located on the Northern Fringes of Exmoor, to take of advantage of the local sporting and equestrian amenities that are offered.
The North Somerset Coastline and the local town of Minehead offers good local amenities and facilities whilst Taunton, the County Town, provides a comprehensive range of recreational, scholastic and shopping facilities as well as a main line railway station and M5 Motorway interchange.
From Taunton take the A358 to Williton and from here proceed in a Westerly direction towards Minehead on the A39 passing through the villages of Washford and Carhampton. Approximately two miles beyond Carhampton turn left where Dunster is indicated and follow the road for approximately 500 yards and then turn right into The Ball. Follow this lane for a further 50 yards and at the sharpe left hand bend, where there will be seen a sign Priory Green, continue through the five bar gate onto the drive and this leads directly to a parking area at Northanger.
