An exquisite 'Regency' townhouse with beautifully presented elegant accommodation within a short distance of the sea front and town.
Seacourt is an exceptionally handsome attached Grade II Listed residence which is a fine example of late Georgian/early Victorian architecture, a period for which this beautiful town is famed. This was an era in which Sidmouth became a fashionable coastal resort attracting much wealth and is responsible for many of the town's elaborate gothic houses along with much of its Regency esplanade.
Seacourt was built circa 1840 and has a classic front façade with many period influences such as the wide eaves and ornate fascia boards, lattice windows, first floor canopied balcony and drip moulds. The accommodation has been the subject of a comprehensive programme of restoration and refurbishment over the past decade, which has resulted in the beautifully presented home of great character we find today. The rooms are of elegant proportions and retain a wealth of period features, yet it is decorated with a more modern approach which creates a wonderful welcoming and mellow ambience. Worthy of particular mention is the beautiful sweeping staircase which rises through three floors, and other notables features include ornate cornicing and several marble fireplaces.
The property has accommodation arranged over five floors with the whole of the lower ground floor comprising a large and stunning kitchen/family room and utility area. This has been beautifully fitted with extensive units under granite work surfaces and has French doors opening into the secluded courtyard garden. To the ground floor there is an elegant drawing room with shuttered French windows onto the terrace and woodburner, as well as the morning room and a bright study on the half landing.
The bedrooms lie on the three remaining floors and all have fine views over the town, with several having views to Salcombe Hill and there is even a view of the sea from one of the shower rooms. The principal bedroom has doors onto the balcony and a superb en-suite with a marble fireplace and freestanding bath. There are also two further bathrooms which accommodate the three further bedrooms.
The property is approached through flintstone pillars and folding timber gates to a gravelled area which provides parking, adjacent to which are borders containing a variety of mature shrubs. To the rear there is a particularly private walled courtyard with plant and shrub beds and garden store. This is a secluded and sheltered place in which to sit and has outside lighting for those late evenings. Steps rise from here to the attractive side porch.
Seacourt is located in a very convenient, yet tucked away position and is within just a few hundred yards of the town centre, esplanade and beaches. The property offers a rare opportunity to purchase one of Sidmouth's most attractive buildings in one of its most sought-after areas and this is an enviable position having all that the town has to offer within a fairly level walk.
Sidmouth is East Devon's premier coastal resort and has a long esplanade with wide pebbled and sand (at low tide) beaches and is situated on the World Heritage Coastline known as The Jurassic Coast. There are some beautiful walks along this stretch of coastline over the myriad of public footpaths, which include the South West Peninsular Coastal Path which runs along the whole of the Devon coastline. The town itself has many beautiful parks, including The Glen which is only short distance away, and a shopping centre with a great variety of independent shops and boutiques, as well as the usual multiples. There is also an out of town Waitrose store, cinema, theatre and range of sporting facilities including tennis courts, croquet lawn, indoor swimming pool, sports centre, golf club and a cricket pitch overlooking the sea.
